Quadroon

By Karla Brundage

Fragments of bloodlines
She walks the quad before sun rises
Flashes of memory
Shoulders squeezed between angry thumbs

She desired to be held
But not
Down, muffled scream
A bang on the door
Lock in

Now she weaves her way home
Hair matted in semen
Cold prickles shiver her bare thighs
Night’s sequined dress
A drape
