ABOUT US
Mari Rice, Founding Editor-in-Chief, is a poet and nonfiction writer. She has a range of experience including working as a youth counselor, in the corporate field and recently in the film industry. Activism has always been a part of her life, beginning as a young girl fighting against apartheid. Her commitment intensified as she went on to work on community, civil and human rights issues, including police brutality and girls/women’s rights. Her writing has appeared in Upscale Magazine, Political Affairs, The Atlanta Voice, The White House Project and elsewhere. She studied Sociology at Savannah State University, with a minor in English. She was born in New York and resides in Atlanta.
Malkia M’Buzi Moore, Associate Editor, is a poet, writer, activist, and arts administrator. She is the author of three books of poetry and a play. Her work has been featured in several journals and anthologies including New Rain anthology series published by Blind Beggar Press, bum rush the page a def poetry jam, edited by Tony Medina and Louis Reyes Rivera, BLACK GOLD, Anthology of Black Poetry edited by Ja. A. Jahannes and BRILLIANT FLAME! AMIRI BARAKA Poetry, Plays and Politics for the People edited by Haki Madhubuti, Michael Simanga, Sonia Sanchez and Woodie King Jr. (Third World Press Foundation). Her writing is fueled by many years of social justice organizing.
