Folded Perceptions By Natasha Muluswela
Challenge the Conventions, 2020 & Folded Perceptions, 2021
encapsulate the meaning behind what we see & deem to be beauty in our society. Two different, plus-sized, nude, Black women pose away from the viewer, fully exposed yet unaware of the gaze that is fixated on them. They exude the meaning of womanhood, their stretchmarks and scars embody this.
The drawings are completed in both graphite and coloured pencils, giving the viewer the opportunity to see the tone & detail of their skin. The mediums I used gave me the ability to further explore that detail.
