When Stones Talk

BY Minnie A. Collins

When Stones Talk
Hold stones in your hands, caress them, inhale earth’s core
Think of fire, water, air, vapor, chisel
Grinding, scraping, stripping, diffusing, extracting, foretelling
Then … “Ahhh…” Free!

Master sculptor, James W. Washington, Jr. romanced his stones
Purging sensual titillating rhythms of historical salvation
Filling voids with meditations
A diamond he is with pneumatic hammers, flints, mallets, burnishing, buffing,
A messenger he is of Yoruba Ashe’
A griot he is in “Young Queen of Ethiopia” “A Wounded Eagle,”
“Martin Luther King, Jr.” “The Kingdom of God Within” and “His Oracle of Truth.”
All Spirits embedded in freed stones.

Stones don’t lie;
Stones record indwelling spirits
Ways of thinking, believing, advocating
Honoring James W. Washington, Jr.
Stone Spirits’ Master Sculptor.
