Supper
By Tamara Madison
Response to “Rosary Prayers” by Bonita Lee Penn
“…if lovin a Black man is a full stomach…,” then
Let him be holy halal
delectable, the most exotic spices
to tingle the tongue, purify the blood.
Let him be Rah-ripened, gently plucked
from the Tree of Trees of Life.
Guided by an ancient awakened, let him, be
rife with resistance forging
righteous return and reign.
Let him be blessed butter-
balm to soothe the bruise of this bitter earth,
eternal fountain of Truth soothing
thirst of lost souls found.
Let him be unprecedented vision
cloaked in power,
steeped in wisdom,
the tenderest first-eye kiss.
Let him be sanctified seed sowing
a garden of gods,
harvest of seven generations,
eternal youth newly aged. This,
my sacred supper,
let him be
the only sustenance supreme
this bleeding black belly needs…
