Still Word- & Deed-Bonding: A 100-Year-Old Kwansaba: 1917-2017
(For East Saint Love & North Saint Luck. For The First, Second, Third & Fourth Whirls)

By Eugene B. Redmond

We mince no minds. Just mesh them--art

fully--like Poets end vesting in an

economy of speech. As house-calling omens

of 60's-mined Africanities & resolve, we're

innate/ornate staples & bonds. Our own

fore-bearers ending a hundred-year-long

night of rafting across a burning river.

Three community gatherings inspired this kwansaba: a January 26 Arts & Culture Committee meeting of the East St. Louis (IL) 1917 [Race Riot] Centennial Commission and Cultural Initiative (EStl CCCI); a January 28 meeting of the St. Louis (MO)-based Better Family Life Board of Directors; and a same day cultural expo at St. Louis' AfroWorld. The CCCI Arts & Culture meeting was held at the ESL home of Reginald Petty & Edna Patterson-Petty. And AfroWorld's expo included a gospel play, poetry, sermonic interludes and awards to “unsung heroes.”
