ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE

By Olumide Ted Wilson

let the music play
let the music play
let the music play
I say
let the music play
let the music play
let the music play
I say
let the music play
let the music play
I say
you wanna hear some words
let the music play
I say
you wanna hear some words
like a poem
like a poem
a rhyme outta time
a space outta place

speak the words of colored tunes
brightly arranged so they pierce
the drums of your ears
now let the music play
the sounds of mulatto all stars
strumming their whatevers
let them strut their strut up
and down the boulevard of hipness
against a backdrop of Al Jolson images in
greenwich village right off cooper square

If you think magic johnson Jackie robinson
and be bop will save your ass this time
let the music play
do you want coherency
do say
do you want a rational approach to integrated systems
ouch! wrong century
do you want a revolutionary development unfolding
like a seasonal change   you say

The word precedes the act
the thought precedes the word
the feeling precedes all thought
or is it vice versa
is this the rationality we seek
coherently speaking
I say
let the music play
let the music play
let the music play
words words and more words
you know words have power    or didn’t you
be careful what you ask for
you will get it sooner than you think
and it will stay later
<which is longer> than you want
can you get to that
better to let the music play
let the music play
sounds of inoculation
anesthetizing
hypnotizing you
into inebriated states of blissful desire…

decadent as it seems:
imagine Silence
