Amerikaka
By Charlois Lumpkin
In Amerika pennies carry as much clout
as old tokens, and silver dollars (if
you can find one) are no longer
silver. Ask Kenny, he ain’t never holdin’:
pockets always full of nothin’, just like
his dreams. Livin’ life on loan because
pay back’s a mutha best not crossed.
Human capital in visible like glass here
for the breakin’, swept up so Money
won’t cut their feet, or get a
sliver in the only eye that sees
poverty as a costume worn by beggars.
Stable lies passin’ for truths: it costs
a lot to be poor in Amerika.
